Karim-Beats
John R. Dunston AKA Karim-Beats
Karim was inspired to play drums at the age of five by a band his father used to play with called “Forrest Blue” in their basement. Later Karim’s grandmother had purchased Karim’s first drum set, where he would embark on his journey of becoming a musician. As he grew older he began playing other instruments such as the guitar, piano etc. When Hip Hop arrived on the scene Karim just naturally seem to be absorbed by the culture of Dee Jaying, Break dancing, Rhyming, and Graffiti, Everyone in his neighborhood knew of his skills on the turntables, and break dancing abilities. It was in 1992 when he had met Shephatiah AKA Dee Jay Rocksteady at his studio where they would do their first collaboration on a hip hop track produced by Dee jay Rocksteady Entitled “Whatcha ya wanna do” and underground song made by The Trauma Center Hip Hop group. In 1995 they also cut a record called “Emergency” that has gain worldwide sales and recognition and has become an collector’s item due to the rare resource of the 12″ and the high demand for it. Since then Karim has mastered his craft and all elements of his musical talent to the point that his style of music is so unique that he has his own signature sound no matter what instrument he chooses to play. Teamed up with Shephatiah these two have put together a masterful musical album entitled “We Gonna Kick UR Jazz”
